Components and build quality:

The standout feature of the Kanimgio kit has to be its size and weight. It's crazy to think that something this compact could turn your regular bike into an ebike but it does work! Our expert reviewer Eilis tested an early version of the kit back in 2025 and got along really well with it.

The kit uses a friction drive motor to power your classic bike. So a small roller presses gently against the rear tyre and when the motor spins, it drives the wheel forward. It’s super easy to install: you just strap it onto the back of your seatpost!

The battery is separate and designed to look like a water bottle so it sits neatly in your bottle cage. The battery itself is 266 watt-hours, and it uses EV-grade cells which is the same class used in electric vehicles and premium e-bikes.

Performance and handling:

While Kamingo claims that the kit has a range of up to 55 miles most riders will see closer to 20 to 30 miles. It all of course depends on terrain, rider weight, and assist level.

Eilis really enjoyed riding with this kit. It isn’t trying to turn your bike into a powerhouse, its aim is to give you a subtle but capable amount of electric assist and it does just that. She did find that there was a little bit of slippage when the roads and surfaces became wet but Kamingo say that they have made improvements to solve this issue on more recent models.

Compatibility-wise, the kit works best with road, commuter, or gravel tyres - it’s not really designed for big mountain bike tread.

There are three levels of assist: normal (no assist), standard, and boost. So you can choose to ride with or without electric assistance even when the kit is attached, the arm will just come up and down according to your preference. All of this can be controlled from the handlebar display.

Safety and security:

The bottle-style battery means that if you lock your bike up in public then you can take it with you and reduce the risk of your bike being stolen. Its bottle-style also means that it is not too cumbersome to carry around with you.
