Folding electric bikes are becoming more popular than ever thanks to their versatility. Whether you're looking for an e-bike that can fit in the trunk of your car, be stored neatly in an apartment, or simply save space in your garage, a folding e-bike is a fantastic option. Many of today's folding electric bikes don't compromise on power either, with some offering impressive range, fat tires, suspension and speeds of up to 28mph.
We've rounded up the best folding electric bikes you can buy in the USA in 2026, from affordable commuters to premium carbon fibre folders here are our top picks:
- URLIFE, $259.99 - Most compact
- Vivi, $519.99 - Best for trails
- GoTrax F2, $999.00 - Best overall
- Engwe L20 2.0, $1,199.00 - Best step-through
- GoTrax F3, $1,499 - Best fat tire
- Urtopia Carbon Fold 2, $1,899.00 - Most lightweight
Best overall: GoTrax F2, $999.00
The GoTrax F2 is our pick as the best overall folding electric bike that you can buy in the USA because of what it offers for the price point that it is at. Of course you can get more power and additional features for a higher price point but this is a lot of bike for a pretty good price.
The GoTrax F2 is a folding electric bike powered by a 500W motor and a 48v 10.4ah removable battery which offers up to 50miles of range. It comes with 5 levels of pedal assist, a throttle and a cadence sensor so you can pick from pedalling or cruising. The cadence sensor does mean that this bike doesn't come with the most natural feeling of assist when pedaling but honestly on long American roads that doesn't really bother me.
The 20” wheels mean that this folding bike doesn't feel too twitchy to turn or when going over bumps or dips in the road. It also comes with front suspension which helps to smooth out the ride on uneven terrain.
It isn't the most lightweight folding bike you can buy at 58.3lbs but it can fold small enough to be put in the trunk of a car if you are heading out on longer weekend adventures and the fold makes it easier to store if you have limited space at home.
A standout feature for me on GoTrax’s bikes are their large colourful LCD displays. They are super easy to read even on bright days and you can see all of the stats you need at a glance. It also has a fully integrated front and rear lighting system which makes sure that you can see and be seen on the roads.
Most lightweight: Urtopia Carbon Fold 2, $1,899.00
A bike that is very different from the one recommended above Urtopia’s Carbon Fold 2 is a carbon fiber folding electric bike that is designed to be sleek and lightweight.

Weighing only 35lbs this folding electric bike is seriously lightweight. This makes it seriously portable and easy to carry upstairs if you live in an apartment building and have nowhere secure to store a bike on the ground floor.
This is increased if you opt for the dual battery setup which ups the claimed range from 40miles to 95miles but I think that that dual battery option really depends on what you want this bike for or how long your commute is.
It is powered by a 250W motor which can peak at 500W and push 52Nm of torque so it is not the most powerful folding bike that we recommend but the motor does still give you a nice amount of assist on the flat and hills. This folder definitely prioritizes lightweight portability over power but that has its positives.
Best fat tire: GoTrax F3, $1,499
The Gotrax F3 is probably one of my favourite bikes I have ridden in the US. It rides like a dream with huge fat tires, front suspension and a powerful 500W motor. It comes with a twist and go throttle so you can cruise along or use the pedal assist if you want a bit more of a workout. It can reach a top speed of up to 28mph and GoTrax claim that the 48v 14ah battery can power you for up to 60miles.
It has a rear rack for any extra cargo you might need to carry and that classic GoTrax large, bright and colorful LCD display which shows you all of the stats you need at a glance.
The fold is maybe where this bike is let down a little… Unfortunately due to its size and weight it is not a quick and easy bike to fold and you do need a fairly sizeable trunk to put it in if you want to take it further afield. But when it is folded it can be popped in the corner of a garage for easier storage.
Most compact: URLIFE, $259.99
This folding by URLIFE is the most compact folding e-bike that we recommend!
This folder comes with a 500W peak motor, multi-sock absorption and 14” tires for a compact fold.
The motor provides ample power and can maintain a steady speed of around 20 mph even on slight uphill climbs. Acceleration feels smooth, and the bike handles easily on city streets although the 14” wheels can feel a little twitchy when going over dips in the road or handling tight corners but once you get used to it it handles better. The multi-sock absorption system does also help to mitigate the feeling of uneven terrain.
The 48V battery can be removed for easy charging inside at home or work. YOu can get about 25 to 35 miles out of a fully charged battery which doesn't quite live up.
Engwe L20 2.0, $1,199.00
The Engwe L20 2.0 is one of the most comfortable folding electric bikes I've ridden and it's a great option if you're looking for something that's easy to get on and off. The low step-through frame makes mounting the bike effortless, whether you're commuting in everyday clothes or heading out for a leisurely weekend ride.
One of the things I liked most about this bike is the riding position. It's nice and upright, giving you a comfortable view of the road ahead without putting too much weight through your wrists. The geometry doesn't feel cramped either, which isn't always the case with folding bikes, so longer rides feel surprisingly relaxed. Front suspension and chunky 20” x 3” tires help soak up bumps in the road.
Power comes from a 750W rear hub motor paired with a removable 52V battery. The bike has plenty of punch for accelerating away from traffic lights and tackling hills, while still feeling smooth and easy to control. It also comes with a throttle alongside multiple levels of pedal assist, so you can choose how much work you want to do.
Another nice touch is the range of colours available. Instead of the usual black or grey, you can choose from Sea Green, Onyx Black, Orange or Rose Pink, giving the bike a bit more personality.
At around 74lbs, the L20 2.0 certainly isn't the lightest folding e-bike on the market, but it folds down neatly enough to fit into the trunk of most cars or take up less room in a garage or apartment.
Best for trails: Vivi, $519.99
I call this the ‘classic style’ folding bike because it looks more like a regular bike when it's not folded, with the high top bar 26” wheels and total weight of 27kg.
The Vivi is powered by a 500W motor (peak 1000W), 48V 374.4Wh battery. It comes with regenerative braking which can really extend the range of ride through cities with lots of traffic lights or hilly areas when going down hills. It can reach a top speed of 22mph and comes with a throttle as well as 5 levels of pedal assist.
This bike wouldn't be out of place in a city but I would recommend this bike for trail-y weekend adventuring. Because it can be folded down it can easily fit in the trunk of a car and its full suspension system means that it soaks up bumps and dips in the road and on trails really super easily. Grippy tires and wide handlebars also make it good for this sort of riding.
It isn’t the sleekest designed folding e-bike I've ever seen but it rides well and delivers good power so if that doesn’t bother you then definitely check this bike out.
