Components and build quality:

Both the City Air and the City Pro come with a 250W rear hub motor delivering a max assist speed of 15.5mph in line with EU regulations, but the difference in power delivery comes with the sensor. The Air has a cadence sensor for an on/off response, whereas the Pro comes with a torque sensor for a more natural feel of assist.

A standout feature of these bikes is the lighting system. They come with a fully integrated front and rear lighting system as well as lights in the battery. The battery lights can be turned on and off on the LCD display and enhance your visibility on the road, especially at night. The battery light does also work when it is removed from the bike! It can be tuned on at the click of a button and used as an extra light source when you are either locking your bike in the dark, or on a countryside camping adventure and you need some extra light.

The City Air rear light also includes a break light feature so other road users know when you are slowing down. Both e-bikes front light is a 2W 30 lux bulb which A-Spads claim allows you to see up to 30m ahead and casts a 3m halo glow in front of the bike. These lighting features ensure that you can see and be seen on the road, maximising your safety.

The Qreate series bikes also come with chain guards which is great for protecting the chain and also means that you have a little more flexibility with your outfit choices as you can wear baggier trousers without the worry of it getting caught up and eaten by the chain. It does however cause a little bit of an issue if the chain comes off as you cannot access it and the chain guard has to be taken off. We would recommend that you always have a screwdriver with you in case this should happen while you are out.

Performance and handling:

Both e-bikes feel very comfortable to ride and the motors both feel very powerful, the only difference is the delivery of power. The City Air has a cadence sensor which means that the motor kicks in with the standard power output relative to whatever level of assist you have selected as soon as you start pedaling. Alternatively, the City Pro has a torque sensor which delivers a more natural feeling of assist when you are riding as the motor matches its power output to the power output of your legs.

The difference in the delivery of power between these two bikes can be felt most when cycling uphill. The City Air’s cadence sensor continued outputting a steady level of power despite the speed of pedalling slowing down as we got more tired further up the hill. The City Pro’s torque sensor meant that we had to pedal harder to maintain a helpful level of assist as the sensor reacts to how hard/fast you are pedaling.

The Qreate series performed really well on our range test and were not far off A-Spadz’s range claims. Bearing in mind that our test took place in sub-10 degree temperatures we were able to get 70km out of the City Air and 80km out of the City Pro.

Safety and security:

The Qreate series bikes have a fair few safety features that can help to keep your bike safe and secure.

The first is the NFC entry. Just tap the NFC card on the LCD display and it will unlock your bike! You can also set up a password that will allow you entry into your bike so unless you have the code, you cannot activate the motor.

The battery is also removable so you can remove it for easy access charging, or to minimise the risk of any unwanted attention your bike may get if you are storing it outside.

You can also unscrew the bell to fit an airtag inside. This is a nice and discreet way of keeping your bike secure and tracking it in case the worst should happen and it gets stolen.
