Components and build quality:

The frame was a key focus in the design upgrade from the X1S to the X7. Macfox wanted to build a bike that riders can keep as they grow, eradicating the need for multiple bike upgrades. It is available in the standard X7 size or in the X7L and is suitable for riders from 5”1 and above.

They have definitely succeeded in making this bike a comfortable: the long padded seat also made it super comfy to use for long journeys and compensated for the lack of rear suspension.

It must be said, however, that taller riders may find this bike more comfortable when cruising with the throttle, rather than using the pedals, as the position of the seat may mean that your knees come up fairly close to your elbows. But this is a pretty excellent city cruiser so that may not necessarily be an issue that you run into very often.

This bike comes with a 500W motor that peaks at 750W - that puts it in the "fun" bracket whilst still being capable of offering a chill and relaxed ride.

The throttle is adjustable and removable so you can choose to have it on either the right or left side. The ability to remove it also gives you the option to take it with you while it’s locked, making it just that little bit more secure should the worst happen and your bike is stolen.

You are able to choose to get the X7 dual which is able to carry two batteries on the frame meaning that you can go further in one journey. The bike is also built to be mod-friendly so that you could switch out the handlebar pads or number plate makes this e-bike really personal to you.

One of the most important things about this e-bike is that it is road legal. It adheres to the maximum motor output and maximum legal speed meaning that you can cruise and ride around with the worry of getting stopped and risking the possibility of your bike being confiscated.

Performance and handling:

The tires on this e-bike are definitely a standout feature. Firstly they work in combination with the front suspension to soak up any bumps in the road making the X7 a smooth ride. Their size and the unusual combination of the 20''x4.5'' front wheel and 20''x5.0' the rear wheel gives the bike a bit of a motorbike feel. It is firmly planted to the ground and makes cruising around urban areas feel really smooth and controlled. But when you aren't cruising around the cityscape and you want a bit of adventure the fat tires can definitely handle multi-terrain journeys and off-road adventures.

This bike is of course on the heavy side, weighing in at 87lbs. This is not a factor that affects the riding experience in any other way than helping you to feel grounded on the road as the 500W motor keeps this bike feeling quick and agile, but it is a factor when you step off the bike. This bike is certainly too heavy for me to carry and sort of distance (for reference I am a 5”7 female). The removable battery means that you don’t need to take the whole bike inside to charge but if you were worried about leaving it outside then it might be a struggle to take it up any stairs if you live on the second or third floor.

With a single battery Macfox claims that you can get up to 35 miles out of one full charge. This will of course vary with outside temperatures and the type of terrain (i.e, whether you are cycling in a very hilly area.) With the dual battery setup you could get up to 70 miles of range. I found the range to be more like 20-25 miles, but I like riding fast...

Safety and security:

Macfox has ensured that the X7 is certified to UL 2849, meaning the entire electrical system - from battery to motor - meets rigorous, independently tested safety standards. This certification covers critical components and their integration, giving riders confidence that the bike has been built with safety as a top priority. Whether you’re riding yourself or purchasing for a younger rider, that level of certification delivers genuine peace of mind every time the bike is powered on.

Another significant upgrade from the X1S is the braking system. While the X1S features a mechanical setup, the X7 is equipped with dual hydraulic disc brakes. Hydraulic disc brakes provide stronger, more consistent stopping power and improved modulation, allowing you to brake smoothly and effectively in a wide range of weather conditions. From wet roads to sudden stops in traffic, this added performance helps you feel more in control and secure throughout your ride.

The large front headlight and bright rear LED lights further enhance safety by ensuring you can clearly see the road ahead and be seen by others. These features improve visibility during nighttime rides and low-light conditions, while also alerting other road users to your presence, helping keep every journey safer.

The Electroheads Verdict:

Overall the Macfox X7 is a great value ebike that's be designed based on feedback and requirements from riders. It's well-balanced and handles exceptionally well. Adrenaline enthusiasts may want something more powerful, but this is the most fun you can have on a road legal ebike whilst also keeping safe.
