Fiido M1 Pro - £999

Folding Fat Tyre | Weight: 26.8kg | Range: Up to 55 miles

Fiido M1 Pro

The Fiido M1 Pro is a fat tyre folding eBike that packs a punch and keeps your wallet (relatively) happy. For £999, you get a seriously capable off-roader that doesn’t feel like a compromise.

Pros:

  • Monster 500W motor. Not road legal in the UK.
  • Massive 614.4Wh battery. Up to 54 miles per charge.
  • Dual suspension.
  • Fat tyres with grip for days. The 20” x 4.0” with anti-skid treaded tyres.
  • It folds!
  • 7-speed gearing.

Cons:

  • It’s a heavy one. At 26.8kg, you won’t want to carry it far, even folded. Definitely a lift-with-your-legs situation.
  • Not for the road (officially). With a 500W motor, this isn’t legal on UK public roads, but for trail riding or private property, it’s ideal.

The Fiido M1 Pro is perfect if you want a rugged, go-anywhere bike that folds away neatly after the adventure. It’s a brilliant mix of practicality and fun, perfect for those who want versatility without spending £2k+.

The M1 Pro absolutely delivers on forest paths, bouncing over grassy fields, and the unpredictable UK outdoors,

It’s not the lightest, but then again, it doesn’t ride like a lightweight either. It’s stable, grippy, and just a lot of fun. Think of it as your weekend warrior that’s ready to roll whenever you are.

Fafrees F20 Max - £999

Folding Fat Tyre | Weight: 31.5kg | Range: up to 75miles

Pros:

  • Step-through frame
  • Dual suspension
  • Folding

Cons:

  • Not road legal in the UK
  • Heavy

This folding fat tyre has a 500W motor that Farees claim has a range of up to 75miles!

I really liked the feel of this bike: the step through frame made it easy to mount and the 500W motor did really make a difference when it came to acceleration speed and tackling uphills.

It also has a max load of up to 150kg which is slightly more than your average 120kg max payload which means that it’s good for bigger riders. It also means that you could take an extra passenger on the back as the rear rack has a small padded seat.

The cadence sensor does not give the most natural feeling of assist but on this bike I don't mind because I was mostly using it offroad, and going uphill with a cadence sensor is always much easier than with a torque sensor.

Not only do the fat tyres on this bike act as shock absorbers, but it also has dual suspension which just makes it an absolute dream to ride. Super comfortable and super fun for tackling multi-terrain adventures.

Hygge Vester | £1,499

Weight: 27kg | Folding Fat Tyre ebike | Range: Up to 50miles

Let me introduce you to the Vester Folding ebike, the Swiss Army knife of urban-meets-adventure electric bikes. Built like a tank but folds like origami, it’s ready to take on just about anything.

Pros:

  • All-terrain fat tyres. The CST 20” x 4.0” tyres grip everything from city tarmac to sand, gravel, and rough trails. You’ll feel stable and in control, no matter the surface.
  • Chunky 48V 14Ah Samsung battery. Delivers up to 80km on a single charge.
  • Hydraulic brakes from Tektro. Excellent stopping power and super responsive. Game-changer if you’re riding fast or hitting mixed terrain.
  • Front suspension. Smooths out bumps and makes for a much comfier ride on uneven ground.
  • It folds! Despite being a beast, the Vester folds down small (98x52x76cm), so it’s easy to store or chuck in the car boot.
  • Shimano 7-speed gearing. Great for hills, long stretches, or just dialing in your preferred ride feel.
  • Smart display with Bluetooth app.

Cons:

  • Hefty! At 27kg. You won’t want to carry it far, but if you’ve got a lift or a garage, it’s no big deal.
  • Folding fat tyre bikes are never super compact. Just know you’re trading some storage efficiency for comfort and capability.

The Vester is a proper go-anywhere, do-anything ebike. It feels solid, looks sharp (hello, alloy frame and wheels), and rides like a dream over just about any terrain. And the fact it’s UK & EU road legal? Huge bonus.

If you're after a fat tyre ebike that folds, conquers any surface, and still manages to look sleek, the Vester is a solid contender.

Engwe M20 | From £1,049

 Cruiser Bike | Weight: 43kg - 46kg | Range: 43miles

Engwe M20 and reviewer Kol HeydelI’ve chosen the Engwe M20 because of the value for money factor and the way their bikes make you feel when riding them.

Pros:

  • Great value for money
  • Massive range on the dual battery version
  • Comfortable and smooth ride that gives you confidence
  • Awesome design and features

Cons:

  • Heavy but if you remove the batteries it becomes 6kg lighter
  • Mechanical disk brakes not hydraulic

The Engwe M20 has a wow factor that beats them all. To me, it looks more like a motorcycle than an e-bike. The bike gave me so much confidence when riding, mainly because of the fat 20x4 inch tyres coupled with both front and rear suspension. The suspension felt quite stiff but that worked well combined with the fat tyres. The M20 soaked up all the city roads that I rode on, although at times I wanted the suspension to be a little softer. The seat was very comfortable as it has the perfect width and softness to support you.

The real charm of the M20 lies in its battery configuration. You can opt for a dual battery setup, though the single battery version doesn’t lag behind in performance, just in range. The single battery version comes in at 43 kg and the dual battery version at 46 kg. So I don’t recommend lugging it around too much.

The build quality is great. It feels durable and solid, although some of the components are quite basic, such as the entry level mechanical disk brakes. On the other hand everything else is built from really nice components.

The battery has a USB slot that will act as a power bank for your phone while on the move which is a really useful touch I you are using it for navigation.

I really like the full throttle handlebar - just like on a motorcycle you twist and go. The dual LED headlights are a gorgeous touch that make this e-bike really stand out.

Overall the M20 is a fantastic bike for those that want a stylish and punchy ride and don’t require any cargo space. If you plan on doing long distance riding then the dual battery pack option is the ideal choice.

Freesky Ranger Air M-540 - £1199

Step-though fat tyre | Weight: 43kg | Range: 60-95miles

The Freesky Ranger Air M-540 stood out because of its dual motor setup. One in the front wheel and one in the rear this step-through fat tyre e-bike is a powerhouse that could tackle pretty much anything I threw at it.

Pros:

  • Three cycling modes: throttle, pedal assist, normal
  • Step-through frame
  • Dual motors

Cons:

  • Long charge time: 8hours
  • Heavy

Saying that, this bike is built to use on off-road adventures which probably includes a lot of uphills which means that the range is definitely towards the lower end of Freesky’s claimed range. Using the throttle more than the pedal assist will also drain the battery faster. All of this power does come with a long charge time of 8 hours which isn’t bad,you just have to remember to pop it on overnight or the day before you want to ride!

The front and rear shock absorbers also made this a super comfortable ride and definitely helped to keep the riding feel natural when I had cargo on the rear rack.

Engwe Pro 3.0 Boost - £1,699

Folding Fat Tyre | Weight: 34.7 kg | Range: 52 - 80miles

Pros:

  • Torque sensor gives natural feeling of assist
  • Can push up to 90Nm of torque!
  • Triple suspension
  • Folds for neat storage

Cons:

  • Heavy! Folding this bike doesn't make it much easier to carry around

This e-bike is powered by a 250W motor which can push up to 90Nm of torque which is a serious amount of pulling power for a UK/EU compliant setup. It is also built with a torque sensor for a natural riding feel and smooth delivery of power.

Claimed range is up to 80 miles in lower assist modes, or around 52 miles if you’re using higher power levels more consistently. For most riders, that’s more than enough for several days of commuting or longer leisure rides without worrying about topping up.

This bike is super comfortable to ride too. With 50mm of front suspension travel, 62mm at the rear, plus additional seat coil suspension, all combined with the wide puncture-resistant tyres, it absorbs rougher surfaces impressively well. Broken tarmac, cobbles, light gravel -  it all feels far more forgiving than a rigid commuter setup.

Stopping power comes from dual piston hydraulic brakes, which is essential on a bike of this size and weight. At around 35kg, this is not a lightweight machine. The folding mechanism makes it more practical for storage but realistically, it’s not something you’ll want to carry up flights of stairs.
