Whether you're a commuter looking for an efficient ride, an adventurer ready to explore new trails, or just someone who wants a smooth and comfortable way to get around, there’s an option on this list that’s sure to suit your needs and budget. Let’s dive into the best e-bikes that combine power, range, and affordability.

  1. HiKnight H2 Pro - $919.00
  2. Cyrusher Rumble - $999.00
  3. Engwe X20 - $999.00
  4. Fiido C21 -  $999.00
  5. ADO Air 20 - $1,299.00
  6. Fiido Nomads - $1,539.00
  7. Macfox X7 - $1,599.00
  8. ADO Air One Pro- $1,799.00
  9. Lacros Cylone - $1,699.00
  10. GOTRAX Mustang - $1,999.00

HiKnight H2 Pro - $919.00

The most affordable e-bike on our list is the HiKnight H2 Pro. It is a step-trough, fat tyre e-bike that comes with dual 1000W motors that can reach a top speed of 38 mph. Fat tires and front suspension make it a great choice for off-roading and multi-terrain adventures.

This e-bike also comes with a throttle so you can choose when you want to pedal and when you just want to cruise.

The H2 Pro’s motor is really powerful which means that it handles hills really well.

While just over $900 isn’t ‘cheap’, this is the most inexpensive option on the list and as such that means that some elements have been compromised on - namely the tires. The tires and inner tubes are a little weak for a bike of this power so they may be something that you might need to replace fairly quickly, but investing in a quality upgrade would really prolong the lifespan, durability and reliability of this otherwise fantastic bike.

Cyrusher Rumble - $999.00

Cyrusher Rumble

This ebike seems designed for all kinds of riders, its step-through frame makes it incredibly easy to mount and dismount, which was especially helpful during quick stops on city routes. The adjustable seat and soft handlebars add to the comfort.

The 500W brushless rear hub motor paired with the Shimano 7-speed shifter delivered a reliable performance, effortlessly handling city streets and light trails. Its top speed of 22 mph was plenty for keeping up with traffic, and the cadence sensor made pedal-assist feel natural and responsive. The twist throttle added convenience for quick bursts of speed when needed.

The 48V 18Ah battery gave me up to 58 miles of range on a single charge, which meant I could enjoy a full day of riding without worrying about recharging. For mixed terrains, the 20"x4" Chaoyang fat tires provided excellent grip and stability, while the front suspension soaked up bumps and kept things smooth on gravel paths and uneven streets.

Safety was another highlight. The 180mm hydraulic disc brakes offered reliable stopping power even in wet conditions, and the dual-shock seat added an extra layer of comfort during longer rides. Plus, the sleek integrated frame and rear rack not only looked great but made it easy to carry essentials.

If I had to point out one downside, it’s the weight. At just over 70 lbs, the Rumble isn’t the lightest bike, so it might be tricky to lift into a car or up a flight of stairs. Still, that weight adds to its solid, sturdy feel, which is a fair trade-off for the power and performance you get.

Engwe X20 - $999.00

Engwe X20Compact yet strong, the Engwe X20 is a great choice if you need power without the bulk. With a 750W motor, it’s more than powerful enough to handle adventuring and off-roading. It’s capable of reaching up to 31 mph (check local laws for speed limits), and claims a 150km range on a single charge. This range is based on the assumption that you are using the bike in eco mode which, for the most part, I did not. This is a fairly big bit of kit so I definitely wanted as much assistance as possible because I like to cycle as fast as I can! But each to their own…

The X20’s fat tires provide extra grip, making it a reliable choice on gravel or wet streets. I also appreciated the triple shock absorbance system, which gave the bike a surprisingly smooth ride for its size. Plus, the bike folds up nicely, making it ideal for small storage spaces or car trunks. The wright of this bike does mean that its folding features makes it easier to store rather than easier to transport or carry for long distances.

Hydraulic disc brakes and integrated front and rear headlights and turn signals are all features that are there to keep you safe. I felt safe and seen on the road as well as confident that when I hit the brakes, the bike would stop.

Fiido C21 - $999.00

Fiido C21If you're looking for something a bit more suited for city riding, the Fiido C21 might be a better option for you.

With a 250W motor, it’s not as powerful as some others on this list, but it’s ideal for city riding, moderate hills, and sandy beaches all the same. The website claims up to 62 miles, setting a new standard for lightweight models.

At only 38.5 lbs, the bike is lightweight, making it easy to carry or store, and the frame design is sleek and minimalist.

I found the ride smooth and comfortable, and I was able to safely ride in light rain, thanks to the IP54 waterproofing on it.

Another thing I loved about this ebike is that it comes in two sizes: L: 5'7"- 6'5" (170-195 cm), and M: 5'3" -5'9" (160-175 cm), so you can choose whichever fits you better! I’m 5'7" and I chose the Medium frame.

ADO Air 20 - $1,299.00

ADO Air 20

The ADO Air 20 completely changed how I think about lightweight ebikes. At just 16 kg (around 35 lbs), it’s incredibly easy to lift, carry, and store. I found it perfect for navigating city commutes and tucking away in small spaces in my apartment. Despite its compact size, this bike doesn’t hold back when it comes to performance. The battery gave me an impressive range of up to 100 km (62 miles), which was more than enough for my daily rides and a few extended trips over the weekend.

What really stood out to me was the carbon belt drive system. Forget messy chains—this setup is clean, durable, and practically maintenance-free. After learning it can last up to 30,000 km without needing servicing, I realized how much of a game-changer it is for hassle-free riding. The torque sensor was another highlight. It responded to every pedal stroke with smooth, motorized assistance that felt intuitive and natural, making hills and longer stretches effortless.

The brushless hub motor was whisper-quiet but packed enough power to reach speeds of 25 km/h (15.5 mph), ideal for my city routes. The IPS color display was a nice touch, too, giving me all the ride stats I needed at a glance, even in bright sunlight. Its waterproof design also meant I didn’t have to stress about unexpected rain.

If there’s one thing that could be improved, it’s the single-speed setup. While it’s simple and effective for most situations, I occasionally missed having a range of gears for more varied terrain. That said, the three levels of pedal assist made up for it by adapting to how much effort I was putting in.

Overall, the ADO Air 20 is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a lightweight ebike that fits into a busy, modern lifestyle.

Fiido Nomads - $1,539.00

The Fiido Nomads is a long range touring e-bike that is designed to be able to carry two extra batteries on the back so you can go on adventures without range anxiety.

You can purchase the Fiido Nomads with just one battery but the beauty of this bike lies in its 3-battery structure. The battery rack is super easy to fit to the bike using six screws and a bar that connects both sides.

It must be said that with all three batteries the back of the bike does definitely feel disproportionately weightier than the front of the bike. This is exacerbated by any extra cargo  you add to the pannier rack.

On our range test we were able to get 50.5miles of range out of two batteries. (This must take into account the fact that our test took place in freezing conditions and we had all three batteries on the bike, so there was some added weight.)

This bike is really nice to ride. The assist kicks in immediately as soon as you start pedalling and the big tires, combined with the wide handlebars makes you feel in control and nicely plated to the road. Along with the suspension this bike can definitely handle a wide range of terrains: mud, paths, roads, cobblestones, frost.

Macfox X7 - $1,599.00

The Macfox X7 is perhaps the ultimate city cruiser. Macfox is the only e-bike brand on the market tailored specifically for teens that is 100% street-legal and compliant. Their design also manages to deliver a cool and personalized vibe.

With fat tyres and front suspension this bike is so smooth to ride as any bumps or dips in the roads are soaked up by this bike. The long padded seat also gives you extra comfort, perfect for long journeys. The Maxfox also has a unique tire combination: a 20''x4.5'' front wheel and a 20''x5.0” rear wheel gives the bike a bit of a motorbike feel. I really like the feel of this bike, as a 5”7 rider it was super comfortable but I would say that taller riders may find this bike more comfortable when cruising as the position of the seat may mean that your knees come up fairly close to your elbows when pedaling. But this is a pretty excellent city cruiser so that may not necessarily be an issue that you run into very often.

This bike comes with a 500W motor that peaks at 750W meaning that it can deliver higher bursts of power when you might need it, kicking in when you are going uphill or for rapid acceleration. With a single battery Macfox claims that you can get up to 35 miles out of one full charge. With the dual battery setup you could get up to 70 miles of range.

One of the most important things about this e-bike is that it is road legal. Macfox has ensured that the X7 is certified to UL 2849, meaning the entire electrical system - from battery to motor - meets rigorous, independently tested safety standards.

The large front headlight and bright rear LED lights further enhance safety by ensuring you can clearly see the road ahead and be seen by others. These features improve visibility during nighttime rides and low-light conditions, while also alerting other road users to your presence, helping keep every journey safer.

ADO Air One Pro - $1,799.00

The ADO Air One Pro is a compact longtail with a step-through that offers lots of room for accessories. It offers more storage options than your standard commuter bike allowing you to add lots of accessories to customize your bike suited for your particular use. It can fit a child seat for the school drop off, a pet friendly case for the furry family member and loads of storage solutions. The bike is compatible with industry standard MIK system (Mounting Is Key) so third party accessories are also supported, allowing for all sorts of customisation!

This is not a light e-bike, weighing 55lbs with standard accessories. It also requires a fair amount of space to be stored, unless you are comfortable locking and keeping your bike outside.

It has an integrated 2-speed automatic motor by BAFANG that uses a carbon belt drive. A carbon belt is great because it's really strong so it won’t break and it is really low maintenance. A carbon belt drive doesn’t usually have gears but this BAFANG system has two gears, meaning that it automatically switches between the two gears and two speeds based on your riding, informed by the torque sensor.

This bike feels wonderful to ride. It’s a smooth ride, the motor making you glide along as it provides you with the most seamless transmission of power. If you can’t tell…we are big fans of how ADO bikes perform. The 20” wheels are fairly wide which means that you also feel quite cushioned as you ride, which is important when your bike is loaded with cargo. The front suspension also means that any bumps or dips in the roads are absorbed by the bike leaving your ride pretty much uninterrupted.

The only drawback with this bike is that our real world range test did not get as much out of this bike as ADO claims. We managed to get around 37km out of one charge. Bearing in mind I was riding this bike around with it loaded up with kit and bags but that should come into ADO’s range consideration because that is what the bike is intended for. If that doesn't sound like enough range for you you can always buy a range extender.

Lacros Cyclone - $1,999.00

The Cyclone 2026 offers a lot for a great price tag. With a continuous 750W motor that pushes 85Nm of torque this bike feels powerful to ride whether you are using the pedal assist feature or the throttle and it can reach top speeds of 28mph. It is a fairly heavy bike and this factor doesn’t feel like an issue when you are riding due to the power output and its compact design and balanced centre of gravity.

It’s weight is due to the fact that Lacros haven’t compromised on any comfort features which makes it a dream to ride. Full suspension and fat tyres soak up bumps and dips in the road on a range of terrains and a comfortable saddle means that you can happily be out riding all day.

Lacros claim that you can get up to 90miles out of the battery. This of course does reduce if, like me, you like to use the throttle to cruise, or if the bike is loaded up with cargo. Speaking of which, this bike is more than capable of carrying a lot of cargo as it has a max capacity of up to 400lbs (181kg)!

The step-through frame is great for shorter riders too. I’m 5”7 and appreciate not having to balance myself and a heavy bike to kick my leg over the back.

GOTRAX Mustang - $1,999.00

While this bike retails for $2,400 it can be included in the list because at the time of writing this bike was (and is usually) on sale for just under $2,000!

This electric cruiser is a great option for navigating urban landscapes - a 750W rear hub motor city cruiser that could be your new commute companion. It is powered by a 48 V 15 Ah battery and can assist you up to a top speed of 20mph.

With 4” tires and front suspension any bumps in the road are totally absorbed by the bike so you can enjoy a smooth ride. The long seat also provides maximum comfort and arguably compensates for a lack of rear suspension.

Hydraulic brakes keep you safe as they guarantee that you can stop in all conditions. The fat tyres also add to the bike’s sense of stability and you feel nicely planted to the road with plenty of grip.

Though this is a heavy bike that isn't really a factor that you feel unless you are carrying it as the motor is powerful enough for it not to affect the feel of the ride.
