Components and Build Quality
The Tarran T1 Pro is powered by its 708 watt-hour battery which is removable and stored in the bottom of the front box. Tarran says that it delivers up to 62 miles of range. The bike has a dual-battery setup, you can double that to as much as 124 miles! It is built with a strong aluminium monocoque frame and has a sleek design.
The Dual-drive landing system is part of this bike so superior. Cargo bikes can often face balancing issues so this tech was developed by Tarran to address that. The system keeps the bike steady and stable when you are stopped, stopping and pushing off so the risk of tipping over is minimised. The bike also has a walk assist mode as the landing gear automatically deploys at low speeds. This helps you to manoeuvre the bike without it tipping over.
The 5.2” retina touchscreen is removable and has built-in navigation. This means that you wouldn't have to attach your phone to the bike’s handlebars or frame if you did not want to. The bike also had blue tooth speakers so you can play music whenever you want!
This e-bike also has fantastic lighting. It has a fully integrated front and rear lighting system. At the front there are dual high-low beam headlights and halo lighting on the front of the box. At the rear there is brake and turn signal lighting too.
It also arrives almost fully assembled so it is a very fuss-free setup. All you have to do is add the handlebars and the saddle. This does mean that it comes in a very very large box so its delivery might be a bit of an event!
This bike has so many features and is super well built but that does mean that this is reflected in the price. This is an e-bike that sits at the top end of the spectrum in terms of both tech and price so it may not be the most suitable option for everyone and you may want to check out more affordable electric cargo bike option.
Performance and Handling
We definitely felt that this bike took some getting used to: you have to adjust to the length and weight of the bike and the size of the wheels. We would definitely recommend practicing riding with the box empty first, before riding with heavy or precious cargo.
We did also find that it was a little slow up the hills on our hill test. The bike does have 100Nm of torque but even without cargo it was heavy to cycle uphill and it did feel like we were a little bit in the way of other vehicles.
That being said however, once you feel confident riding the Tarran T1 Pro it is an incredibly comfortable bike. The suspension on this bike is a standout feature. Riding over speedbumps and cobblestone roads felt fine as the cyclist and as a passenger in the front box! The motor makes this feel like a very smooth ride outputting the tight amount of assist and reaching the top speed of 15.5mph when in Turbo mode.
In our range test we used about half of the battery’s power in one full day of riding. This was without cargo in the front box so we would maybe recommend getting the two battery option if you want to be out and about all day with cargo in the front box.
The comfort and capacity for transporting cargo that this e-bike provides is outstanding. For some it could be the future and serve as an alternative to your car!
Safety and Security
This cargo bike has all of the safety and security features that you could ask for.
First of all, to unlock the bike you have a card key, or you can unlock it by the Tarran App, so no one but you can get into your bike!
It has three cameras - front, rear and selfie mode - which means that you can keep tabs on your surroundings as you ride with a rear view camera and radar detection that constantly monitors approaching vehicles and alerts you via handlebar vibrations, visual signals on the central display and audible alerts which can all be turned off individually.
The cameras also come into play when your bike is in Sentry Mode. Sentry Mode means that if the bike senses a lot of shaking it will activate audio and lighting alarms, it will send you an alert to your phone and it will save footage to the SD card installed in the bike.
There is also GPS in the Tarran so you can easily track and locate your ride. And finally there is also Lost Mode which fully locks the bike up: it’s impossible to ride until you disable it in the app. In Lost mode you can still view your bike’s location and receive sentry alerts.
This bike is of course super secure and the battery is removable, yet it must be noted that it is of course a very big bike so you either need space to store it inside or in a garage, or be comfortable keeping it locked up outside.
