Engwe Y10 - €399.00
The Engwe Y10 is a great entry level scooter for those who might be buying an electric scooter for the first time or those who are shopping on a budget.
It comes with a 350W motor and is powered by a 36V13AH battery which can give you up to 65km of range. Depending on where you are the top speed will range between 25km/h and 32km/h according to the local laws and restrictions. This is a kick-starter scooter so the motor will not start until you have pushed off and the scooter is travelling at least 3km/h.
The lack of suspension can be a little tough on your wrists during longer journeys, especially over smaller paving/cobble stones, but for city commuting the 10x3inch tyres do a pretty good job at making the handling fairly smooth and stable. The deck is not the widest or longest but it is big enough to feel stable, especially with the grippy rubber texturing.
Integrated into the handlebars is an LED display and turn signals. The display shows you all of the riding stats that you need to know (such as speed and battery level), and the turn signals and integrated front and rear lights make sure that you can be seen on the roads. The one thing I will say is that sometimes the display can be hard to see in bright daylight as it is not very bright or colourful but I didn't find this to be too much of an issue.
The front stem folds down super easily and the scooter as a whole only weighs 17.2kg so even when you are not riding it this scooter is very portable, easy to carry upstairs or put in the boot of a car.
iScooter i8M - €419.00
The iScooter i8M comes with a 500W motor and is powered by a 36V 5.2Ah battery that gives you up to 25km of range. It can hit a top speed of up to 30km/h and withstand a max load of 120kg.
The 500W motor makes this scooter feel quick off the mark when starting from a standing start and it can handle fairly steep hills (up to 15%).
This is one of the most lightweight scooters on this list weighing in at only 13kg which, along with its foldable frame, makes it perfect for cross-city travel, getting on trains, taking up and down stairs.
It does come with a central LCD display but you can also control this scooter though the iScooter app on your phone. Through the app you can lock/unlock your scooter, switch modes, track your battery percentage and turn on/off the integrated front and rear lights.
I did find that while the pneumatic tyres do work to absorb any bumps or dips in the road, the 8.5inch wheels can feel a little more twitchy than bigger wheels over uneven surfaces. This is something that you would get used to as you ride but it’s definitely something to consider.
isinwheel S9Max - €449.99
The isinwheel S9Max is power by a 500W motor, offers up to 40km of range and can hit a top speed of 35km/h. isinwheel claims that it can handle gradients of up to 20% but I found that while it can make it up them, it does so at a much reduced speed.
The 10inch tyres make for easy and stable handling and steering and the dual front and rear suspension means that the ride is smooth and comfortable over uneven terrain.
This scooter has a lot of useful extras such as app connectivity (giving you control of the scooter from your phone) and a USB port in the handlebars so you can charge your phone when you are out and about which, for me, is a really helpful extra.
Integrated front and rear lights as well as turn signals are there to keep you safe and seen on the roads.
Engwe Y600 Upgrade - €579.00
This is perhaps one of the comfiest scooters on this list. Not only does it have a dual suspension system which absorbs the shock from any bumps or dips you may come across on the road but it also has a wide deck. The deck is 9inches wide which really enhances the sense of stability that you have when riding this scooter. The 10inch wheels also make for easy handling when turning and on uneven terrain.
The Y600 Upgrade is powered by a 600W motor, pushes 28Nm of torque, and is powered by a 48V18AH battery. Engwe claims a range of up to 70km with this scooter but of course this will be reduced if you are using it to tackle hilly terrain, and if you are consistently using the highest ride mode. This power does mean that this scooter has a longer charge time than many of the other scooters on this list and takes between 10 and 12 hours to charge.
The handlebars are equipped with the controls for the integrated turn signals and the LCD display which displays your speed, battery level and ride mode selection. It is colourless but easy to read at a glance in daylight.
KuKirin G2 - €1,070.05
The Kurkirin G2 Max is a powerhouse of a scooter built for multi-terrain journeys. The 1000W motor can get you up to speeds of up to 35mph, easily cope with hills, and last for up to 50miles between charges.
The full suspension is combined with pneumatic tires which makes this scooter super comfortable to ride and really well suited to multi-terrain journeys and offroad uses. You can also adjust the handlebar height which is, in my opinion, a bit of a must-have for a scooter of this price, so that you can maximize comfort while you ride.
All of these features, the power, suspension and adjustable handlebars, make this the perfect pick for bigger and taller riders. It also has a maximum weight limit of 264lbs and comes with a seat that can be attached to make this scooter a seated cruiser.
I also really like the 6 light system: 1 front headlight, 2 front auxiliary lights, 1 tail light brake light and 2 turn warning lights. It not only lets you see during nighttime riding but it helps you to feel safe and seen at all times.
All of these features do, however, add to the weight. I found this scooter hard to handle when I wasn’t riding it: it is very heavy to lift so bear this in mind if you live on the second or third floor of a building and have nowhere to store it outside/downstairs.
