Pure Advance Flex: "Packed with useful features" £1,099.99
Best for cutting-edge technology and compact folding
If Tesla made a scooter, it would probably resemble the Pure Advance Flex. This is a powerful, long-range scooter with an innovative and rather novel front-facing riding position. It also has Pure Control, Pure’s name for their signature new electronic steering stabilisation (a bit like torque vectoring in a sports car).
While many scooters are foldable, the Pure Advance Flex folds TWICE, into a super compact form - it’s a bit like the Brompton bike of the scooter world.
At 16.2kg, it’s relatively heavy, but we found that the double folding mechanism made it easy to carry short distances, or to transport in the back of a car. Most importantly though, the double folding mechanism meant it could fit into a fairly small cupboard space for storage at home.
So let’s talk about the ride - as mentioned, the Advance Flex has a forward facing ride position, unlike most scooters which have a narrow skateboard-like platform which the rider has to stand on at a slight angle.
The Advance Flex has two individual platforms (one for each foot). This takes some getting used to, but once you adjust to it, we found it was arguably easier to steer than a normal scooter, just by shifting your bodyweight from side to side. In this sense, you’re turning as though you were skiing, rather than if you were snowboarding.
In terms of safety and visibility, the amount of lights on the Pure Advance Flex can compete with a small Christmas tree. It features a 150 lumen front light, handlebar and footpad indicators, rear brake, and running lights - we definitely turned heads while out reviewing it.
The Pure Electric app allows you to digitally lock and unlock your scooter, monitor its stats and enable cruise control, which is a nice feature to have.
And the final trick up its sleeve? As well as a front mechanical brake combined, it has a regenerative rear electric brake, helping to give a riding range of 40km (24.8 miles), at a top speed of 25km/h (15.5mph).
Oh, and sprinkle a little water resistance of IP65 on top. Heh, see what we did there? That means it’s resistant to heavy rain and splashes.

Pure Air³: "Built for real life" £419
Best for all-round quality under £500
The Pure Air³ comes packed with a lot of useful features, all at a reasonable price of £419. While you might not get the front-facing riding position and full double folding design of the Pure Advance Flex, it still folds in half and retains many of the characteristics of its more advanced sibling.
The Pure Air³ boasts a robust design, featuring an oversized handlebar stem, giving it a chunky and sturdy feel when riding. Its active steering stabilisation gently centres the handlebar after a turn, akin to power steering. This makes cornering smooth, though in our experience it did take 10-15 minutes to get used to. After that though - you don’t even notice it.
Equipped with a bright 150-lumen front light, handlebar indicators, rear brake, and running light, the Pure Air³ ensures you’re visible and safe on the road. While the range is on the lower end at 30km (20 miles), the regenerative e-brake helps recharge the battery while braking, boosting the range slightly.
Overall, the Pure Air³ proves itself to be a reliable and comfortable scooter, feeling like a higher-quality ride than its price would suggest.
Engwe S6: "Like a tank" £649.99
Best all-round seated option
With a range of 37 miles (60km) on a triple suspension system, – front, rear, and under the seat – the S6 is a very comfortable ride. It comes with a 500W motor and 15.6AH Lithium-ion battery, with an impressive top speed of 28mph.
It’s worth noting that you can fold down the seat or remove it entirely, giving you the option to use it as a seated scooter or a standing scooter.
Personally, we think it’s most fun as a standing scooter (the wide footplate makes it comfortable for standing riding) - and there aren’t many scooters on the market that have a top speed as high as this one for this sort of price point.
So what’s the drawback? Well this speed, power and size must come at a cost, and the cost here is in weight. At 31.7kg, this is a fairly heavy scooter, and we had some difficulty carrying it up stairs or lugging it into the back of the car.
This weight does make it feel like a bit of a tank though, and it feels especially safe when riding in a seated position.
And in terms of safety, its 8 light sources do a good job of keeping you safe and visible to all, and give you control so other road users know your next move.
If all this wasn’t enough, it has an IPX4 water resistance, allowing you to travel on rainy days or other wet road conditions.
Indi Ex2: “Built for hills” £359
Best for Excellent hill climbing ability
The Indi Ex2 offers a comfortable ride on uneven terrain thanks to its three riding modes. It features a top speed of 15.5mph, thanks to its 350W motor and 7.8AH Lithium-ion battery. With a range of 18 miles (28.9km), this scooter is perfect for those who need it for commuting or leisure riding.
The Ex2 comes equipped with pneumatic wheels, ensuring a smooth ride even on bumpy roads. Its sleek design allows for easy folding and storing.
Even though this scooter does not come packed with features, its simplicity and light weight compensate for this. Weighing only 14kg, it falls on the lighter end for scooters, making it easy to carry up stairs or load into a car.
Safety is a priority with the Indi Ex2. Its front and rear lights with a flashing brake light, as well as its front, rear and side reflectors ensure you’re visible to other road users and keep you in control during night rides. Xiaomi Mi Essential: "Light and easy" £422.00
Best for entry-level urban commuting
The Xiaomi Mi Essential electric scooter strikes an impressive balance between affordability and functionality, making it an obvious choice for urban commuters on a bit of a budget. The Mi Essential features a 500W motor, capable of reaching speeds of up to 20km/h (12.4mph), and offers a practical range of 20km (12.4 miles) on a single charge, ideal for short city rides.
This is slightly slower than most scooters on the market, which tend to reach speeds of at least 15mph. But that makes this a good option for less confident riders. This speed feels like a reasonable pace in the inner city, and certainly doesn’t feel too slow.
Weighing just 12kg, the Mi Essential is one of the lighter scooters on the market, and its simple folding mechanism makes it extremely portable. The scooter's 8.5” pneumatic tyres provide a comfortable ride, absorbing most of the shocks from uneven surfaces. Safety is paramount, with a dual braking system that includes both an E-ABS regenerative anti-lock system and a rear disc brake.
The scooter’s minimalist design includes a multifunctional LED display to monitor speed, battery life, and riding mode. It also has a headlight and a tail light to ensure visibility during night rides. The Mi Essential supports the Xiaomi Home app, which lets you monitor your ride stats and perform remote locking.

Best for cutting-edge features
Aike are an Estonian e-mobility company looking to use urban mobility with the latest technology.
Powered by a 350W motor, the Aike T can reach speeds of up to 25km/h (15.5mph) and offers a range of 40km (25 miles) on a single charge. Its robust build ensures durability while maintaining a relatively lightweight of 19kg.
Unlike most of the scooters on this list, which are made in China, the Aike is made in Europe, which does unfortunately contribute to the higher price tag.
But we love the removable battery and the fact that the battery can be charged with a USB-C charger, just like you’d charge your laptop with.
The big, squishy 10” solid tyres are some of the most shock-absorbing tyres we’ve seen, making up for the lack of suspension. Safety is enhanced with a dual braking system that includes a mechanical drum brake and a regenerative electrical brake.
A standout feature of the Aike T is its integrated smart technology, including app connectivity for ride statistics and remote locking. It also has front and rear LED lights for night riding. The scooter's boasts being 100% waterproof, stating that it’ll take you through even the toughest of storms, working perfectly in all conditions – even in puddles, on ice and under water.
Apollo Phantom V4: "High-performance beast" £1,482.68
Best for power and speed
The Apollo Phantom is a high-performance electric scooter designed for thrill-seekers and serious commuters. With dual 1200W motors, it can achieve an exhilarating top speed of 41mph (65km/h) and offers a range of up to 50 miles (80km) on a single charge.
