Best e-bike conversion kits in the USA | Spring 2026

If you want an electric bike, but you don't want to get rid of your non-electric bike, then an e-bike conversion kit might just be what you're looking for. Here we've compiled a list of our top choices of conversion kits for 2026.

We've been reviewing electric bikes for six years, reviewing hundreds of models in that time - including dozens of conversion kits. And our mission is to help you find the right model for your particular needs.

So in price-ascending order, here is our selection of the best kits to electrify your bike.

Kamingo - $589.00

This is by far the smallest conversion kit on this list, not only in size but also in cost! This lightweight kit clips onto your seat post for a super easy installation and

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Super easy to fit
  • Low cost

Cons:

  • Sometimes slips in the rain
  • Not compatible with a standard mudguard

In our experience the Kamingo does not give you much assistance from a standing start. This is very much a kit that assists you in the background, the assist kicking in more as you pick up speed.

The Kamingo kit also had regenerative braking! This means that the kit converts kinetic energy from braking into energy that recharges your battery and maximised your range.

It also has tilt protection so if the bike tilts past 45 degrees the motor will cut power meaning that it won't keep going should you fall off.

Livall Pikaboost2 - $329.00 - $565.00

Weight: 3kg | Range: up to 43miles | Type: all-in-one friction drive

The Pikaboost2 combines the motor and battery into one single unit which not only makes it sleek, but self-contained and easy to install. The system uses Livall’s adaptive assist technology which automatically adjusts motor output depending on how fast you’re pedalling.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to install
  • Multiple power modes

Cons:

  • There can be slippage in wet conditions

The kit is also really lightweight, weighing in at 3kg, meaning that it doesn't dramatically alter the feeling of your bike. Especially when you're not riding it, your bike is still easy enough to maneuver or carry upstairs if necessary.

The kit also uses regenerative braking to recharge the battery as you cycle. This technology converts kinetic energy from braking into energy that can be fed back into the battery. This is great for keeping your battery life topped up while you are out.

The kit has two editions: the Lite and the Powerful. The Lite comes with one riding mode while the Powerful has three! These three include regular assist, cruise mode, and workout mode.

Workout mode was definitely my favorite aspect of this kit, and it’s something that I have never been offered on other conversion kits. In this mode, every pedal stroke becomes a challenge because the motor creates resistance! This meant that, when I wanted to, I could really feel a burn through my legs and get a workout in on the way home from work. Every pedal in this mode also generates energy that is stored in the kit’s battery.

Like with all friction systems, the Pikaboost2 is victim to dropping traction in wet conditions. It didn’t render the kit entirely unusable in wet conditions but I definitely felt some slippage and was not getting as much assist as I was in the dry.

eBikeling - $849.98 - $979.98

This kit is compatible with a wide range of bikes and tires. It can fit with tires 20” - 26”, regular and fat, and you can pick from a front or rear motor making it a great, versatile option that suits not only your bike but your preferences too.

It should be noted that there are fewer customization options available if you want to have a front motor, rather than a rear motor.

Pros:

  • Strong performance across varied terrain
  • Smooth pedal assist feel
  • Customizable settings
  • Intuitive controls

Cons:

  • Moderate installation skill required
  • Indiscreet
  • On the heavier side

The eBikeling 48V 1200W is a high-performance conversion kit that delivers powerful torque and has excellent hill-climbing capabilities. The range of this kit is dependent on the battery you pick. They even have an option to have a rear rack battery, rather than a Bull Shark battery.

One thing that I will say about the eBikeling kit is that the motor is quite large in the wheel which not only means that it is quite heavy, but it is also  not very discreet. It is not a covert conversion and may, compared to other options, draw the eye of opportunistic thieves. But if you take the battery with you when you lock it up then it might be a bit of a dead weight without any power flowing through it.

Bafang BBS02B - $999.99

Bafang makes the motors for so many e-bike brands out there so it only makes sense that they also have their own conversion kit!

Pros:

  • Strong torque
  • Effective hill performance
  • Durable
  • Customizable

Cons:

  • Complex installation
  • Limited compatibility
  • On the heavier side

The Bafang BBS02B kit has a 750W mid-drive motor that comes with a torque sensor. A mid-drive motor is meant to be the optimum position for an e-bike motor as the low center of gravity helps to make your bike feel grounded and evenly weighted.

Range will depend on the battery that you pick - on Amazon you can choose either a 13Ah, 16Ah or 19.2Ah battery.

It provides impressive torque and hill power, it’s a durable, adjustable option for dedicated cyclists, though the install requires more patience and the system adds noticeable weight.

CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 - $1,250.00

With an ultra powerful 5,000W motor this kit is insanely powerful, built for off-road adventures. It offers unmatched acceleration and delivers strong performance on steep, technical terrain.

Pros:

  • Massive torque
  • Balanced weight
  • Ideal for demanding off-road

Cons:

  • Battery sold separately
  • Needs reinforced drivetrain and brakes
  • Complex installation
  • High cost
  • Not street legal in many areas

It comes with a throttle and you are able to pick from a thumb throttle, half-twist throttle, or full twist throttle. I like a thumb throttle best because I find it easiest to control but others prefer the twist style throttles as it gives their bike that motorcycle feeling, especially with a bike that would be as powerful as this.

When you are having to buy the battery separately this kit can be expensive but as a conversion kit it does offer unparalleled power.

Included in the kit is a magnetic speed sensor and magnetic brake sensors. The magnetic brake sensors are optional but probably recommended for a motor this powerful.

Skarper - approx. $2,000.00

Skaper’s conversion kits will soon be available in the USA and this is super exciting because their design is one of a kind! Skarper’s conversion kit is designed to be easy to click on and off, so the change from your regular bike to an e-bike is not permanent. The motor is there for when you need it, but if you don't, then your regular bike is back within seconds.

Pros:

  • Easy to fit and remove.
  • All in one battery and motor.
  • Has a DynamicClimb pedal sensor (that knows you're on a hill, before you do).

Cons:

  • It cannot be fitted with a kickstand.
  • Fairly premium price.
  • Noisy compared to most e-bike motors, but not intrusively so.

You could even share the motor between two bikes if, for example, you and a partner don't ride at the same time or have the same sized bike, but both want an e-bike. (Both bikes must be fitted with the Skarper DiskDrive which can be bought separately.)

The easy click-on click-off design of this kit does mean that it is built for daily rides and commuting on tarmac, gravel, and light trails, and will not necessarily be able to withstand off roading adventuring.

The battery takes 2.5 hours to charge to full and has a range of 6-9miles on a half an hour charge.

The Skarper kit does not come with a wireless handle bar display for remote control but you can control the battery another way. To activate Skaper’s ‘Pause Mode’, simply back pedal three times to send Skarper to conserve battery when electric assist is not needed. To reactivate, simply backpedal three times again to go back to assisted riding.

While this is perhaps the easiest kit to fit, Skarper does offer free professional installation if you want to really make sure that everything is fitted correctly and securely.
