Components and build quality:

One of the most distinctive aspects of the Soleil01 is its compact design. The bike uses a 6061 aluminium alloy frame, helping keep the overall package relatively light and manageable compared with a full-sized electric dirt bike.

I would say that although Tuttio claims that this bike is for riders from 4’0” to 6’3” that I am a 5’7” rider and anyone taller than 5’9” might start to feel that this is too small and their knees may be up near the handlebars. The smaller frame does mean that it is much easier to handle than full sized dirt bikes which makes it a great option for younger, shorter or beginner riders.

The bike also uses a mid-drive motor rather than a conventional rear hub motor. This puts the motor's power closer to the centre of the bike, helping with weight distribution and giving it the potential for strong traction when riding over uneven terrain.

At the front, you've got hydraulic suspension, while the rear uses an air shock absorber. Together, these give the Soleil01 a decent amount of suspension travel for tackling bumps, gravel and rougher trails.

The 14-inch front wheel and smaller 12-inch rear wheel are another distinctive part of the design. This combination helps keep the bike compact while still providing a larger front wheel to help it roll over obstacles.

The tyres are also designed for off-road use, with a chunky, puncture-resistant tread that should provide plenty of grip across surfaces such as gravel, grass and dirt.

There's also a relatively large 48V 21Ah, 1008Wh battery mounted within the frame. Tuttio claims up to 45 miles of range, although as always with electric bikes, your real-world range will depend heavily on factors such as rider weight, terrain, speed and how aggressively you ride.

Performance and handling:

The bike uses a 2000W mid-drive motor capable of producing up to 3000W of peak power and 200Nm of torque. That's a serious amount of power for such a compact electric dirt bike. The mid-drive motor helps when you're riding over rough terrain, as the central motor placement keeps the weight distribution relatively balanced. With 200Nm of torque available, the bike really excelled when it came to rapid acceleration and climbing steep sections of trail.

It easily hit 40mph on stretches of flat road and kept up good speed even on steeper bits of trail.

Tuttio claims a range of 45miles but as with any electric dirt bike, though, the claimed range should be treated as a maximum rather than something you should expect during aggressive off-road riding. Using the higher power modes, riding at top speed, climbing hills and tackling rough terrain will all reduce the amount of range you get from a single charge.

The differently sized wheels help to improve handling and give the bike stability on rough terrain. The larger 14-inch front tyre helps the bike roll over obstacles, while the smaller 12-inch rear keeps the overall bike compact and manoeuvrable.

One of the things I particularly like about the Soleil01 is that it doesn't try to be a full-sized dirt bike. Its compact dimensions make it feel more approachable, and that can be a real advantage if you're new to this type of riding.

Safety and security:

The Soleil01 is equipped with hydraulic brakes, giving you strong and predictable stopping power when you need to slow down quickly. This is particularly important given the bike's performance. With a claimed top speed of 40mph and up to 3000W of peak power, having capable brakes is essential.

There's also a key ignition built into the bike. This means the bike can't simply be powered on without the key, adding an extra layer of security when you're not riding.

The Soleil01 also has a mounted display, which provides information such as speed, battery level and riding mode.

That said, the bike's compact size shouldn't be mistaken for being a toy. With a claimed 40mph top speed and 265lb maximum load, this is a serious off-road machine and should be ridden with appropriate protective equipment.

Tuttio recommends wearing a helmet, knee and elbow protection and checking the brakes, tyres, handlebars and battery before every ride.
