Components and build quality:

At just 13.75kg, it’s one of the lightest electric bikes on the market, making it an effortless companion for city commutes. The bike is powered by a silent Mivice M070 250W motor which ensures a smooth and quiet ride. Its minimalist design means that the bike has hidden cables, a fully integrated battery and no bulky display.

This bike is designed to be low-maintenance as well as lightweight. The Gates Carbon Belt Drive system offers a smooth, grease-free experience that requires less maintenance, so you can focus on the ride instead of worrying about upkeep.

The ‘Fiido Mate’, the watch that acts as the display for this bike comes already paired to the bike so there is minimal setup upon unboxing. You can use it regularly to track your steps, heart rate, sleep and even your messages, but as soon as the bike turns on it turns into your display. The health tracking features on the watch are ok, sometimes they are not very accurate but they do give you a general overview of your health and well-being.

Without the Mate watch the bike does also give you an indication of the bike’s battery level by colour coded light system on the bikes top tube. 10-40% is indicated by red, 40-60% by orange, and 60-100% by green.

The level of assist is also indicated by the colour system: no colour indicated no assist, yellow indicating normal, and purple indicating sport. It can be hard to sometimes see the colours as the light is not very big, but you do feel the level of assist change as you ride and that is a pretty clear indicator or the level you are on.

Performance and handling:

Even when the motor is off this e-bike feels like a traditional bicycle because it is so lightweight. It is the perfect balance between electric and traditional cycling. It feels agile and responsive to ride.

Although the assist is limited to 15.5mph (is accordance to UK and EU law) because it is so lightweight you are able to easily push past that and get up to some really nice speeds.

For a bike that is intended for city commuting the lack of gears due to the single speed carbon belt drive does not affect the performance of this bike too much. It performed ok on the hill test: it was a bit more work to try and get up steeper hills but it did definitely help.

During our real world range test we were able to get 26miles out of one full charge. Our test was conducted in near freezing conditions which does of course affect the performance of lithium ion batteries. We did also find that once you hit that red zone (10-40% battery) there was less and less power being outputted so you would maybe want to be on your way home when you hit that zone. We got about 16miles out of the battery before we hit the red zone.

You are able to purchase a range extender from Fiido which costs £227 and can be strapped to the frame of the bike.

Safety and security:

The Fiido Air features a fingerprint unlock system which means that only you can get into your bike. This feature can be set up on the Fiido app.

Safety is a priority with hydraulic disc brakes that offer fast, precise, and controlled stopping power, no matter the conditions. Plus, the bike is equipped with integrated front and rear lights to ensure you’re visible during night rides.

The integrated battery does mean that the battery cannot be removed it you are locking your bike up outside which does mean that it may be susceptible to thieves but with the sleek minimalist design you can hardly tell that it is an electric bike which would certainly reduce any unwanted attention.
