Electric scooters have surged in popularity over the past few years - and subsequently there are 100s of different makes and models on the market.
That means it can be hard to know where to start when it comes to buying a good, affordable electric scooter, but that's where we come in!
Electroheads are experts in electric scooters and bikes, and we’ve identified eight e-scooters that deliver great performance, style, and value - all for under £500.
- Riceel R50 - £179.99
- Todimart T3 - £179.99
- ESTVELO ES-S1 - £189.99
- iScooter i9 Pro - £247.99
- RCB R19 - £251.99
Riceel R50 - £179.99
The Riceel R50 has a powerful 350W motor that can power you up to speeds of 15.5mph for up to 18miles. With 8.5inch solid tyres and dual braking I found this scooter easy to handle and secure to ride.
For this price there are a couple things that have to be compromised on, namely a comprehensive digital display and control centre. To unlock and turn on the front light and adjust your speed setting you must go through the app, which some people like, but I would rather have those features in reach while I’m riding.
Nevertheless this is a great scooter for getting you from A to B quickly for a budget price.
Todimart T3 - £179.99

There aren't a great deal of scooters available at a sub £200 price point, and generally - those that are, well... they tend to be unreliable and underpowered.
But the Todimart T3 really does seem to be a £300-standard scooter for the price of £179.99: it's cheap but solid.
It is lightweight and slim, making it perfectly portable if you live upstairs in an apartment building. It has a 350W motor that can get you up to speeds of 15.5mph. This scooter is however notably slower when carrying riders over 70kg.
To be so lightweight this scooter does not include elements such as suspension or large wheels and comes with 8.5” solid tyres.
But overall, this is a steal for the price. Good brakes, good acceleration, and a fairly smooth ride, all for £179.99. Not bad!
ESTVELO ES-S1 - £189.99

The ES-S1 is powered by a 350W motor and a range of up to 18miles. The power and light features can all be controlled by the mobile app or, as I prefer, can be controlled by the button on the handlebars: long press to turn on and off; short press once to turn on the light; short press twice to switch gears.
The front headlight is bright enough to help you see the road when it's dark and the rear lights flash when you're braking ensuring that other road users can see you, keeping you safe.
My favorite thing about this scooter is that it has pneumatic tyres. These act as shock-absorbers and soak up bumps and dips in the road better than solid tyres. At this price point I think they are a massive bonus on a scooter.
iScooter i9 - £247.99

The iScooter i9 Pro might be budget-friendly, but it doesn’t skimp on essentials. This sleek scooter boasts a top speed of 15.5 mph and a range of up to 18.6 miles, making it an excellent choice for daily commutes. We found the i9 easy to fold and carry at a weight of just 12kg, making it a good option for those who need to go upstairs or store their scooter in small spaces.
It feels well built and solid underneath you, unlike some cheap scooters which can rattle around a little.
The truth here is that this is a no-frills scooter that does a very effective job of getting you from A to B.
RCB R19 - £251.99
This RCB scooter comes with a 400W motor and a 10.4Ah battery that offers a range of up to 20miles. It can reach speeds of up to 15.5mph.
I was impressed with the performance and handling of the R19. The 10” tyres made this scooter feel nicely planted to the road and offered better control than smaller wheels. The addition of shock absorbers in the front fork means that any bumps or dips in the road are absorbed through the scooter, making longer journeys easier on your wrists. I found the wide deck to be fairly grippy and wide enough to get a good stance.
This scooter is a good, affordable choice for commuters as it has enough range to get you to and from work and it is moderately lightweight weighing in at 16kg. As a 5”7 woman of reasonable strength I could carry this upstairs, be that in an apartment building or at work.
