Top Electric Cargo Bikes Under £2,000

Dec 20, 2024Mariam Parra

Whether you're commuting to work, running errands, or planning a weekend adventure, an electric cargo bike can make all the difference. With the ability to carry more than just yourself, these e-bikes are perfect for those who need a little extra hauling power without sacrificing the joys of cycling. In this review, I've tested a range of electric cargo bikes that are not only affordable but also packed with features that make them versatile, reliable, and fun to ride. Below, you'll find detailed insights into each bike, including what stood out during my rides and why they might just be the perfect fit for your needs.

Please note that at the price point, these bikes are often not fully fledged cargo bikes, but offer more cargo carrying capacity than the standard ebike.

ADO Air One Pro - £1,599.00

Weight: 25kg | Range: up to 62miles | Type: compact longtail

The ADO Air One Pro is not only capable of carrying ample amounts of cargo but it is also a dream to ride. It had a carbon belt drive which usually means that there are no gears but this BAFANG system has an integrated 2-speed automatic motor which automatically switches between the two gears and two speeds based on your riding, informed by the torque sensor. I really enjoyed this system and thought that it was super intuitive and made for a smooth and natural riding feeling.

The 20” wheels are fairly wide which means that you also feel quite cushioned as you ride, which is important when your bike is loaded with cargo. The front suspension also means that any bumps or dips in the roads are absorbed by the bike leaving your ride pretty much uninterrupted.

The Air One Pro comes with a rear rack and a front basket. It can fit a child seat for the school drop off, a pet friendly case for the furry family member and loads of storage solutions. The bike is compatible with industry standard MIK system (Mounting Is Key) so third party accessories are also supported, allowing for all sorts of customisation!

Because the Air One Pro is a compact longtail it is not as cumbersome as bigger cargo bikes but when it is fitted with all of the necessary accessories and loaded up with cargo it is just as good. One of my favourite features is that it is extremely stable when it is loaded up; when cycling with the Luca backpack attached to one side of the rear rack I didn't feel it pulling or the bike wanting to lean. Another is that it is still slim enough to allow you to easily cycle through any rows of bollards that you may encounter on your journey.

Freesky Ranger Air - £1,199.00

Weight: 43kg | Range: up to 90miles | Type: fat-tyre, rear rack

The Freesky Ranger Air is a comfortable cargo bike that can carry up to 136kg. The fat tyres not only work to absorb any bumps in the road but they also stabilise the bike as you ride and help it to feel sturdy even when the rear rack is loaded up with cargo.

This bike is definitely built for comfort. From the fat tyres, to the full suspension, to the step-through frame this bike is  easy to mount and smooth to ride.

The dual motor system and 25A 48V battery makes this bike powerful and suited to long-range trips.

Although it is the bike that can perhaps carry the least cargo on this list it is still a fantastic affordable option for those looking for a reliable and capable cargo bike.

Weight: 39.5kg | Range: up to 85miles | Type: longtail

Fiido T2 Longtail Cargo

The Fiido T2 Longtail Cargo is a bike that’s designed to meet all your transportation needs. The first thing that struck me about this bike was its versatility. Whether I was using it to carry groceries, a couple of child seats, or just a few bags, the large rear and front racks made it easy to load up. The bike’s motor provides plenty of power, making it easy to get up to speed even when carrying a full load.

Engwe EP-2 3.0 Boost - £1,299.00

Weight: 39.5kg | Range: up to 85miles | Type: folding, rear-rack

The first thing you notice about the Engwe EP-2 3.0 Boost is its versatility. This isn’t just a bike - it’s a rugged companion for your daily adventures.

When I first hopped on, the motor's power was immediately noticeable, and it effortlessly took me up some pretty steep inclines without any hesitation. The fat tires are a dream, offering stability even on uneven terrain, whether I was cruising down a gravel path or navigating pothole-ridden streets.

One feature that really stood out to me was the rear rack. It’s perfect for hauling groceries or even carrying a small load of gear if you’re headed out for a weekend adventure. The EP-2's folding capability also adds to its appeal - I was able to fold it up and stow it in the trunk of my car with ease, making it a great option for those with limited storage space. For anyone looking for an affordable, durable e-bike that doesn’t skimp on power or cargo-carrying capabilities, the Engwe EP-2 3.0 Boost is a fantastic choice.

Ado Oasis One - £1,599.00

Weight: 37.5kg | Range: up to 75miles | Type: longtail

The Oasis One by ADO has both a front and rear rack which provides ample room for all of your cargo needs. With 20”x4” tyres the bike feels nice and stable as you ride, firstly planted to the road. The combination of the fat-tyres and front suspension help to soak up any bumps in the road and make the riding experience smooth even when the bike is loaded up.

ADO’s motor system provides instant assist as soon as you push down on the pedals and the torque sensor creates a natural riding feeling as the power output from the motor matches the output from your legs.

The Shimano 7 Speed gears also mean that you can control your speed and pedal resistance, something which I find to be really helpful when going uphill with a bike full of cargo - I don't have to slow down dramatically because I can switch gears easily.

Cyrusher XF650 - £1,699

Weight: kg | Range: miles | Type: fat-tyre, rear rack

Cyrusher XF650

The Cyrusher XF650 is built like a tank, and you feel that right from the first pedal. This bike is clearly designed to tackle both on-road and off-road challenges, and it does so with confidence. I took it on some pretty rough trails, and the strong frame handled everything I threw at it without a hitch. The motor is powerful enough to keep you cruising comfortably at higher speeds, even when carrying a heavy load.

One of the standout features for me was the bike’s cargo capacity. The XF650 is perfect for anyone who needs to carry more than just themselves—whether it’s tools for work, camping gear for a weekend trip, or even just a hefty grocery haul. The fat tires also add to the bike’s stability, making it a reliable choice for anyone who needs a bike that can do it all.
